John Travolta's suit stayed alive all these years

6 August 2012

The white suit worn by John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever has been tracked for an exhibition at the V&A on Hollywood costume.

Curator Deborah Nadoolman Landis discovered that Paramount Pictures had auctioned the three-piece polyester suit in which Travolta hit the dance floor as Tony Manero for charity in 1979. It was bought by film critic Gene Siskel. When Siskel died, it was sold again at Christie’s and the trail went cold —until Ms Nadoolman Landis found the current owner, who wants to remain anonymous but said he was thrilled to share the film suit with the public.

It will go on display in Hollywood Costume from October 20.
