Katie Hopkins has "congratulated" American security officials for preventing a Muslim family of 11 from flying to Disneyland.

Mohammad Tariq Mahmood, his brother Zahid, and nine of their children were due to fly to America from Gatwick Airport on December 15 but were told they could not board the flight because they had been refused entry to the country.

The case was highlighted by Mr Mahmood’s local MP Stella Creasy.

Mr Mahmood said he was unsure why his family were refused entry to America but writing in her Daily Mail column Ms Hopkins said she didn’t “buy” his story.

She said the fact Mr Mahmood was travelling with another man and their nine-strong “brood” without any women should have raised suspicions.

Furthermore, she said their address in Waltham Forest, which she described as a “hotbed of extremism” was also of concern.

She wrote: “Mo. I put it to you that you and your lovely British family were not off to Disneyland at all. I am not buying your story.

“I find it utterly improbable two men with the entire Mahmood clan were travelling without the company of a wife or mother to such a family-orientated destination.

“I have worked in Disneyland as a Security Guard. You don’t sound like our typical visitor group.

“I congratulate the USA Homeland Security Force for a job well done.”

Mr Mahmood, a gym owner from Walthamstow, said his youngest children had been left “traumatised” by the incident and called on David Cameron to intervene.

The Prime Minister said he would look into the case after it was brought to his attention by Miss Creasy.
