A gem from Victorian London’s golden age of steam is to reopen next month after a £40 million restoration.

The Great Northern Hotel between King’s Cross and St Pancras has been returned to its former glory following a 12-year closure.

The £250-a-night 91-room boutique hotel will include a huge bar taking up almost the entire ground floor with glass chandeliers and mirrored glass ceilings inspired by French railway restaurants.

New owner Jeremy Robson, of hotel investment company Ram, said: “We have tried to create one of Europe’s finest bars in a station.

“The hotel has an enchanting beauty and enjoys the most spectacular of locations.”
