A large fire has broken out in a 20-storey tower block in south-east London.
Almost 60 firefighters were tackling the blaze at the high-rise in Lewisham on Thursday morning.
Dramatic images from the scene showed flames rising from windows of the block, in Elmira Street, as smoke billows into the sky.
Others showed a number of emergency vehicles outside the tower.
Some 150 people left the building before firefighters arrived at about 4.15am.
Ambulance crews and police were also at the scene of the fire, as well as the London Fire Brigade.
Witnesses described being woken to the sound of people screaming, while others said the surrounding area was evacuated.
One wrote on Twitter: “Woken up to the sound of people screaming there was a fire. Horrible!”
Another said: “Woken up by the sound of London Fire Brigade trucks. There is a nasty fire in a new build, Roma Corte, in Lewisham.
“People have evacuated to nearby Cormill Gardens. Get out if you haven’t. Hope everyone is safe!”
Police later said the fire was now out and that the surrounding roads will be reopened as soon as possible.
Lewisham MPS tweeted: "The fire is out and we are looking to open the road ASAP."
In statement, London Fire Brigade said: “A sprinkler system activated and suppressed the fire.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 16 calls to the fire.
The statement added: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
