Live West End final for Twitter talent contest

2 May 2012

An online talent competition being run by the phantom tweeter @westendproducer is to have a real-life stage finale to find the musical theatre stars of the future.

All 900 seats will be “tweet seats” where the audience will be encouraged to offer Twitter feedback on the acts.

The mystery tweeter, with 15,000 followers, has been running #searchforatwitterstar for two months. In his first phone interview he revealed more than 600 show tune performances have been uploaded on YouTube.

The live final at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, on July 9 will see 10 acts fight for the Twitterstar crown.

@westendproducer said: “You decide how you perform, if you use a backing track, what you’re wearing.”

Everyone who has submitted a song online is being considered for a quarter final of 40 contenders, to be narrowed down by public vote.
