London College is first ‘for profit’ university

A London-based law school has been given the go-ahead to become Britain’s first “for profit” university.

The former College of Law charity was sold to venture capitalists this year.

The trustees plan to use the sale proceeds to set up a charitable fund to help students, aiming to broaden access to the legal profession.

Universities Minister David Willetts hoped other private universities will follow.
