Londoner creates amazing collages from Evening Standard on her daily commute

Inventive: some of the collages created by Louise Richardson

A London commuter has set herself a challenge to create a collage from the Evening Standard every weekday on her journey to work.

Louise Richardson started making the inventive works of art at the beginning of January as part of a New Year's resolution to make her commute more productive.

The 26-year-old graphic designer from Brighton, who works at the National Theatre, often features political figures like Mayor Boris Johnson and Labour leader Ed Miliband in her handmade posters.

Her designs have already started to rack up hundreds of fans on her Instagram and Tumblr pages.

She told the Standard she once became so engrossed in her collage making that she accidentally cut off a piece of her own hair.

She said she almost always used the Evening Standard rather than the Metro because it had "better quality images".

She said: "I have been commuting from Brighton for about a year and it got to the point that the I felt like I was wasting an hour each time.

"I just wanted to do something that was off screen and get back to basics with scissors and glue.

"The newspaper is such a good resource. It is quite easy to get hold of. And it's a nice challenge for the journey- you have to get it done in that time frame."

Ms Richardson said one of her favourite collages includes a picture of fashion designer and model Alexa Chung with a head of balloons.

She said: "I like the idea of looking back at the stories to see what was in the news.

"I enjoy the thought process involved. It is the juxtaposition of images which helps me in my job.

"I thought it might get boring after 10 collages but I am already on 30 and it is still fun."
