The original London Routemaster bus has been transformed into a Google Doodle to celebrate 60 years since the first model was unveiled.
A Routemaster bus has replaced the Google logo on the website’s homepage in the latest collaboration to mark Transport for London’s Year of the Bus celebrations.
The Routemaster first made its public appearance in London on September 24, 1954 and has been serving the capital over six decades.
Leon Daniels, managing director for surface transport, said: “I’m delighted that London’s iconic Routemaster will join the London Underground in being honoured with a Google Doodle.
“It’s a hugely fitting tribute to the backbone of the capital’s transport network and definitely one of the highlights so far in 2014’s Year of the Bus.”
As well as marking 60 years since the launch of the Routemaster, the Year of the Bus marks 75 years since the unveiling of its predecessor the RT-type bus and 100 years since hundreds of London buses were sent to the Western Front during World War One.
Other activities making up the celebrations include the creation of a Lego bus stop shelter, live music performances on board a bus and bus stop exhibitions along the Strand.
A Year of the Bus sculpture trail is taking place on October 20 featuring 60 bus sculptures created by well-known and aspiring artists.
