A yellow weather warning is in place for London and the south-east, with gusts of up to 45mph today set to batter the region around the capital.

Londoners are being warned to expect "difficult driving conditions", while holidaymakers towing caravans and anyone planning a camping trip may want to take extra care or rethink their plans.

The yellow warning states: "Whilst already windy on Sunday, winds are expected to increase further during Monday, becoming very gusty with a risk of gales over exposed coasts and hills.

"The public should be aware of the potential for some minor disruption to outdoor activities and difficult driving conditions."

Winds in the south-east will die down on Tuesday, but conditions will remain breezy - and as July draws to a close the weather is set to be "changeable", Mr Hall added.

Apart from the wind, today's weather is set to be cloudy in London, with a 40 per cent chance of rain as the morning rush hour gets under way, and highs of 19C expected during the afternoon.
