Heavy thunderstorms are set to rain down on London after the capital awoke this weekend to sunshine.

Met Office forecasters predicted scattered showers throughout Saturday morning will turn into downpours in the afternoon.

It comes just days after London was battered by intense storms and torrential rain which sparked flash floods across the capital and brought the transport network to a halt.

A month’s worth of rain fell within the early hours on Thursday which sparked chaos on the roads and railways throughout the day.

But today’s storms don’t appear to be as destructive with the rain set to die down by the evening.

And on Sunday the weather is predicted to remain dry with sunny spells throughout although the “odd morning shower” is a possibility.

Temperatures are expected to peak at 21C on both days this weekend.

Forecasters added Londoners are set for an unsettled start to next week with rain predicted on Monday morning.

However, the afternoon is thought to be remain dry with sunny intervals but heavy rain could make its return by Wednesday.
