A Century of popular culture, from a corset worn by Madonna to a sign from the set of the new James Bond film Skyfall, will go under the hammer at Christie’s this month.
The corset, designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier for Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour in 1990, is expected to make up to £15,000 at the sale on Thursday next week. But the Skyfall prop is one of the cheaper lots with an estimate of £1,000 to £1,500.
It joins memorabilia from films including Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean on show at Christie’s South Kensington auction rooms from Saturday until the day before the sale. Other items include a bass guitar smashed by Kurt Cobain at the end of the video for the Nirvana track Smells Like Teen Spirit.
A cheap guitar was bought specially for the filming, and it was retrieved by a teenage extra on the 1991 shoot. It is now expected to make up to £25,000.
Elvis Presley fans can bid for a rare Rolex watch he owned (estimate £6,000-£8,000), Bono fans can buy a pair of his rimless Emporio Armani sunglasses (estimate £1,000-£1,500) and Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry costumes are up for offer too.
There is also a 1947 painting of film star Ava Gardner, a guitar signed by Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger’s jumpsuit from the Rolling Stones’ 1972 US tour (estimate up to £12,000).
