A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry on a busy A road this morning.

The crash happened at about 5am on the North Circular in Wembley between the Harrow Road underpass and Ikea and left the man, said by police to be in his mid-20s or early 30s, in hospital with critical injuries.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called to the eastbound A406 in NW10 at 4.59am following reports of a road traffic collision. Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended and found a lorry in collision with a pedestrian.

"The male pedestrian was taken by London Air Ambulance to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

"No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing."

The North Circular was shut eastbound while police investigated, but reopened shortly after 7am.
