A man has been taken to hospital with head injuries after falling from a building in Piccadilly.

Emergency services were called to a construction site on Arlington Street, near St James's Street, shortly before 2pm.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said a man reported to be in 30s was taken to St Mary's Hospital as a priority after being treated for head injuries.

Several resources including London's air ambulance were dispatched, she said.

Firefighters helped rescue the man after his fall.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said he tumbled from the sixth to the fourth floor and was brought down by a "turn table ladder" - a cherry picker-like vehicle.

Police closed roads while emergency services dealt with the incident, shutting St James's Street between Piccadilly and King Street.

St James's Street reopened around 3.30pm, Transport for London said.
