Manor Park fire: Gas cylinders explode as huge blaze breaks out at Kwik Fit tyre workshop in east London

A huge fire has broken out with several gas cylinders exploding due to the heat at a Kwik Fit tyre workshop in east London.

Some 70 firefighters were tackling the flames and local residents were being evacuated near the site in Manor Park on Tuesday night.

The majority of the industrial unit, in High Street North, was alight as the blaze took hold, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

Dramatic footage showed flames tearing through the workshop as smoke billowed into the sky.

LFB said crews were called to the fire at about 9.50pm, sending firefighters from East Ham and surrounding stations.

It said in statement: "The single storey unit was badly damaged by fire. A number of gas cylinders have exploded due to the heat."

The brigade later said the fire was under control by shortly before 11.20pm and that the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
