A coach burst into flames on a slip road in north-west London this morning, leaving the driver needing medical treatment and sending smoke billowing into the air.

The Diamond Coaches vehicle was pictured partially engulfed by flames on the slip road connecting the A406 and the A41 in Brent Cross.

It happened at about 2.30am, police said. The coach driver needed treatment for shock and breathing in smoke.

The vehicle was 50 per cent damaged by the time the four fire crews had got the blaze under control.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire-based Diamond Coaches said the firm's traffic manager was today meeting fire chiefs. It is not yet known what caused the blaze.

Diamond Coaches offers school bus services, rail replacement buses, private hire coaches and school transport.

The company was unable to confirm how many passengers had been on the vehicle, though it is understood no one apart from the driver was hurt.
