A minibus driver collapsed at the wheel and died after his vehicle crashed into a traffic light.

Police were called to the Leamouth Road roundabout in Poplar, east London, at 8.40pm yesterday following reports of an accident involving a minibus.

The driver, a 44-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police believe that before the incident the minibus, a white Ford Transit, had travelled along Aspen Way and been involved in a collision with a black Ford Galaxy. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured.

The Metropolitan Police is appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call 0208 597 4874.
