A minicab driver and his six passengers escaped unscathed when a tree fell on their car in south London as the capital was battered by strong winds.

All seven escaped without injuries after the tree fell on an Addison Lee cab in Southwark Street.

In a separate incident a tree narrowly missed a white van as it fell onto Bethune Road in Hackney this morning.
