Mother’s tears for missing son as aged e-fit is released 11 years after disappearance

The heartbroken mother of a teenager missing for 11 years wept when shown a police e-fit released today of what he may look like aged 27.

Nerissa Tivy, 51, said the new image of Alexander Sloley – who was 16 in August 2008 – resembled his father Christopher, who died without knowing what happened to his son.

The accountancy student from Islington vanished “off the face of the Earth” on the way home from a friend’s house in Edmonton.

Alex had little money and no extra clothes to indicate he planned to run away.

He has never applied for a job using his national insurance number or held a passport in his name. All reported sightings have been negative.

His father Christopher died in 2014, three days after his 50th birthday party.

Officers investigating Alex’s disappearance made a fresh appeal for information this morning urging anyone who knows what happened to “end this family’s nightmare”.

They released a computer-generated e-fit of how he would look now.

Mrs Tivy, 51, said: “I spent days and days looking at the e-fit, thinking ‘Wow’.

“He reminded me so much of Christopher. I had a lot of emotions and at first felt low and cried.

“But then I could see how very good-looking he had become with his beard.

“Alex was a clever boy and studying accountancy. He was an Arsenal supporter and loved his football.

“There was no reason for him to leave home. I just hope if Alex is reading this, even if he didn’t want to come home, that he could get a message to us to say he’s okay. We miss him dearly. He’s my only son.

“As time goes by, we haven’t given up hope that he’ll walk through the door to a big hug. But I understand people don’t just vanish off the face of the Earth.”

Mrs Tivy said her son was protective of his three sisters, now aged 16, 29 and 32. He had only ever seen one of their children.

A former pupil of Islington Arts and Media School, Alex was studying accountancy at City and Islington College.

Detective Constable Tom Boon, of the Central North Command Unit, said: “It is now 11 years since Alex went missing. Although there is no evidence he has come to harm, with every month that passes we grow more and more concerned.

“I believe somebody, somewhere, knows something about Alex’s disappearance.

“I would urge anyone who does, to do the right thing and contact police. Alex’s family have endured over a decade and uncertainty and heartache. Help end this family’s nightmare.”

Anyone with information should call the Central North Command Missing Person Unit on 07881 330963 or Missing People on 116000.
