A lucky motorist escaped a parking fine after leaving a hilarious letter on their car pleading with traffic wardens not to give them a ticket.

The note, found taped to a car windscreen in Elms Crescent, Clapham, explained the car owner’s partner went out of town with the car keys making it impossible to move it from the control zone.

It read: “This car would have been moved as required before control hours except my dear spouse took both sets of keys on an out of town trip at 5am.

“Given that I will do two five mile round trip school runs by foot and predict a lousy day as a result, would you be so kind as to not give me a ticket? I do have a permit a few feet away.”

The letter is signed “A-not-too-happy-spouse”.

It is unknown who scrawled the note, but residents confirmed there was no parking ticket left on the car today.

Amused neighbours shared pictures of the note online and congratulated the car owner’s efforts.

One resident said: “I thought it was an absolutely brilliant effort on the part of the car owner and given the usual ruthless nature of most Lambeth parking wardens, quite unbelievable that they managed to pull it off.

“Either that or they got very lucky and no one was checking. I knew that someone was having a worse morning than me when I saw the note on the car – hilarious."
