A bid to move world-famous Notting Hill Carnival off the streets of the London borough was launched by an MP today.

Victoria Borwick wrote to Mayor Sadiq Khan calling for a review of the annual Carnival, saying local traders and residents were fed up with disruption and violent crime.

Four people were stabbed and 45 police officers injured in violence at this year’s carnival, where more than 450 were arrested.

Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has already announced that Scotland Yard will review safety and consider ticketing along with organisers.

But Mrs Borwick, the MP for Kensington & Chelsea, called for more drastic options to be considered following “year on year increase in violence and physical harm to our police officers and members of the public”.

She wrote: “This not about minor changes... We need to all work together for a safe carnival that you can bring your children and grandchildren to.”

Mrs Borwick said the review should look into locations and the length of the festival.
