Man charged with murder following death of woman in Ilford

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Ilford.

Police launched an investigation after a 67-year-old woman was found dead at an address in De Vere Gardens on Wednesday, October 12.

Jamie Cook, 31, was arrested on the same day and has now been charged with murder.

He appeared in custody on Friday at Barkingside Magistrates Court and will next appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, October 18.

Mr Cook and the victim both knew each other, police said.

The woman’s next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are continuing to investigate.
