Ex-MP Lembit Opik has become an internet sensation as the star of a London group's music video.

The clip shows him awkwardly miming to The Good Suns' second single Pop Wound while wearing a suit and "dad dancing" on a Greenwich rooftop.

Its release on Twitter provoked a storm of comments, from amused to appalled - with many even questioning its authenticity.

Mr Opik, 46, today confirmed the promotional film, which he worked on for no fee, is real and insisted he was delighted with the result, despite some opinions.

And he suggested he may have found his niche - after a barrage of blows that included losing his MP's seat, splitting with Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia, missing out on the Lib-Dem nomination for Mayor of London and ridicule for his try at stand-up comedy.

He said: "It's a cracking song - nostalgic remorse with a hint of passion - and fits well with me."
