Fifteen disused railway arches in Peckham are to be transformed in a newly-announced £3m project.

The arches between Brayards Road and Consort Road, formerly the home of the Meridian Bronze Foundry, will be named Bronze Yard and is set to open to businesses in autumn.

The foundry which previously stood on the site cast statues across London, including the famous Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square and The National Firefighters Memorial in Monument, sculpted to honour the victims of the Blitz.

"We are thrilled to embark on this transformative journey to revive these historic railway arches in Peckham," said Craig McWilliam, CEO at The Arch Company, which is behind the plans.

“The Arch Company is investing over £3 million into redeveloping these arches to preserve their heritage and create valuable opportunities for new businesses in this area, contributing to the economic growth and vibrancy of Peckham.”

Under the changes, the arches will be made fit for shops, cafes, offices, and light industrial uses. The company estimates it could support up to 75 jobs.

The restoration will involve fully lining each arch, creating infills, installing new floor slabs for efficient loading, and equipping them with automatic roller shutters.

The Arch Company purchased 5,200 properties from Network Rail in 2019, making it the UK’s largest small business landlord.
