A person has died after being hit by a train in south east London.

Emergency services were called to Belvedere station shortly before 12pm on Friday to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokeswoman for the British Transport Police said.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Pictures from the scene show an air ambulance landing at the scene.

The line between Charlton and Slade Green was closed for several hours while emergency services attended.
