An Arsenal fan who became an internet sensation for his angry rants about the team has gone missing.

Essex Police are extremely concerned for the welfare of 53-year-old taxi driver Claudio Callegari, who has not been seen since yesterday morning.

Mr Callegari, known as Gooner Claude, became famous after being interviewed several times on ArsenalFanTV ranting over Arsenal results and Arsene Wenger.

Some of his most comments have been: "If I did go to Barcelona I'd spend it in a strip club because we couldn't score in a brothel."

He also said: "I left my wife because she didn't like Arsenal."

A statement from Essex Police appealed for anyone with information on Mr Callegari, who got into his taxi around 11.30am on Thursday, to get in touch.

The statement issued yesterday read: “Our officers and his family are extremely concerned for his welfare and would urge anybody who has seen him or who knows where he is to contact police on 101.

“He is an avid Arsenal football fan and has contacts in the London area. He may have been in Edmonton at around 3pm today.”

Mr Callegari is described as a white, bald man of large build, around 5ft 10ins tall.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt and black trousers.

The ArsenalFanTV Twitter account confirmed that the missing report was genuine and they hadn’t spoken to Mr Callegari since the end of the season.
