Police have arrested more than 90 people on the first full day of Notting Hill Carnival.

Thousands of revellers visited west London today for the world famous carnival and police said as of 8pm this evening, a total of 92 people were arrested for a range of offences.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said seven people had been arrested for sexual offences while 25 were arrested for drugs offences.

A total of seven people were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, 10 for going equipped for theft and 12 people were arrested for public order offences.

Other arrests include one for grievous bodily harm, seven for actual bodily harm, three for criminal damage and 20 for other unspecified offences.

Officers on patrol at the carnival also seized 350 canister of nitrous oxide in Ledbury Road this afternoon.

No arrests were made and the matter has been referred to Westminster City Council for street trading offences, the Met spokesman said.

Yesterday, a 15-year-old boy was charged with being in possession of a knife at the carnival’s Panorama event in Pleasance Park.

He was bailed to appear at Hammersmith Youth Court on September 14 and was prohibited from attending the carnival today and tomorrow.
