Two athletes who shot to fame after a video of them racing the Tube went viral have taken on the DLR in a relay race through London.

James Heptonstall and Noel Carroll filmed their latest stunt on the capital's transport network for a new YouTube video.

They were joined by ultra marathon runner Rob Bell and England touch rugby player Will Serocold for the challenge on June 26.

The group ran 553m from Island Gardens to Mudchute station in exactly one minute after their first attempt from Cutty Sark to Mudchute failed.

Mr Heptonstall, 30, an environmental consultant, said: "We thought the Greenwich tunnel was a really cool thing to have to race through.

"It was a little more challenging doing a relay. We had to work out where the changeovers would happen."

Commenting on the first failed attempt, he added: "Unfortunately the train was just going off into the distance.

"It was a bit frustrating. We wanted to share the video to show that we do not always make it. We never do dry runs. I think the escalators and the steps in the tunnel slowed us down."

It is almost one year since Mr Heptonstall and Mr Carroll filmed their original Race the Tube stunt, which has been viewed millions of times.

The duo, who share their races on their Epic Challenges YouTube channel, have since been invited to attempt challenges all over the world, including New York.

Mr Heptonstall said: "You keep thinking [the attention] might die down. It is just something about the challenges that seems to have gripped people."

The friends are planning another race through London later this year but would not reveal the proposed location.

Mr Heptonstall said: "We have plans for another one but it is top secret. It should be quite exciting."
