Cleared: Adam Sissons

A RADA graduate wiped away tears as a jury cleared him of raping a waiter on their first date.

Adam Sissons, 28, was said to have attacked the 19-year-old after they went back to his flat in Hoxton in October 2014.

They had met in a restaurant in Angel where the teenager waited tables and went on a date at the Narrowboat pub, having chatted to each other in advance on gay dating app Grindr.

The waiter claimed after consensual sexual activity he told Sissons to stop, but said he was sexually assaulted and then raped by the older man.

But Sissons, whose CV since graduating from RADA includes work at the Royal Albert Hall, the National Theatre and on the hit BBC comedy series Gavin and Stacey, said the encounter was entirely consensual.

After the verdicts were delivered at Blackfriars crown court this afternoon, Sissons was visibly emotional and needed a glass of water before he left the dock.

He was found not guilty unanimously of rape and assault by penetration.
