Soho House gets go-ahead for new Dean Street super club

Soho House has been given planning permission to restore a former Georgian townhouse gutted by fire three years ago to open a new private members’ club.

The grade 2-listed building, at 76 Dean Street, was said to be one of the finest buildings in the area until it was largely destroyed by the devastating blaze.

All that remains is the frontage of the three-storey building. It has been classified as ‘at risk’ by English Heritage. Under the proposals by Soho House and Soho Estates Limited the former offices will become a new club for the film, media and creative industries and will include a preview cinema in the new basement.

Councillor Alastair Moss, chairman of the Planning and City Development Committee, said: “The exceptional benefits would involve the restoration of a fine historic building in Soho and its return to a use appropriate to the character of the area.”

The meeting heard that work on the project is expected to be carried out soon as the funding is in place.
