Stag fright! Man forced to seek refuge in tree after being chased by rutting animal

Stag fright: The man cowers from the animal
5 October 2012

As a way of seeing nature on your doorstep a walk through the park is an obvious place to go.

But for one man his brush with the wild came a little closer than he expected when he got caught in the middle of a rut between two stags.

The grey-haired walker found himself the centre of attention as one of the beasts turned on him in Bushy Park, north of Hampton Court Palace, in south west London.

He quickly hid behind a tree, protected from deer by a fence. But even this did not deter the animal which attempted to get to him.

After a stand-off of a couple of minutes the pedestrian was forced to climb the tree to escape.

An woman, who saw the whole thing and filmed it, said: "There were two stags parallel and going to have a fight and all of a sudden a man got too close and was chased by a stag that was hyped up.

"He just shouted 'help, help but you couldn't get close because the stag was just too hyped up."
