A gala to mark the end of Kevin Spacey’s 11-year run as Old Vic artistic director is set to raise thousands for the theatre.

Annie Lennox and Sting will perform at the celebratory event in April, as the Hollywood actor hands the reins to his successor, director Matthew Warchus.

Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville — who appeared in Cloaca by Maria Goos, the first production of Spacey’s tenure — will introduce the evening.

It will raise funds for the Old Vic Endowment Fund, which Spacey founded with businessman Sir Michael Hintze to help secure the long-term future of the venue.

Bonneville said: “I’m delighted to be hosting this special event in honour of a man whose dedication to the entertainment industry and to the Old Vic in particular has been second to none.”

Choreographer and director Rob Ashford will direct the event.

Spacey is returning to the Old Vic stage for a short revival of his one-man show Clarence Darrow before he leaves.

Tickets for the gala are available from £100, with a live screening at BFI Southbank from £10. oldvictheatre.com
