A woman and three children tonight fled from a burning flat after a fire broke out in a Hackney street.

Two fire engines were sent to Castlewood Road, Stoke Newington just after 8pm following a blaze in a top floor flat.

Pictures from the scene show the street taped off with ambulances called to the scene but no injuries were reported.

A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said four people including a woman and three children left the home by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews spent around half-an-hour tackling the blaze before it was extinguished.

The spokeswoman said 50 per cent of the kitchen was destroyed by the blaze but no neighbouring properties were affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
