Sweet news: Marine Ices ice cream will stay on the menu at Chalk Farm

27 February 2013

Good news for London ice cream lovers... Chalk Farm favourite Marine Ices will continue selling its delicious treats after reports that the business was to be sold.

The family run ice-cream seller has served the area for the past 82 years and will continue to do so, its ice cream producer said today.

Paul Myatt, Managing Director of Criterion Ices, who makes the ice cream served in Marine Ices, said there would be no change to the ice cream business.

Italian restaurant chain Pontis will take over the restaurant premises in Chalk Farm but the popular Marine Ices ice cream will still be on the menu.

The Marine Ices business originated in the late 19th century when Gaetano Mansi came to England from Southern Italy.

He started the ice cream shop in 1931.

Last May the family handed over the manufacture of their ice cream to Suffolk firm Criterion Ices.
