One teenager has died and a second is in a serious condition in hospital after they were involved in a motorcycle collision in Mottingham earlier today.

Police were called just after 4.30pm to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle in Mottingham Road, near the junction with William Barefoot Drive.

Officers and paramedics from London Ambulance Service found two injured men at the site of the collision.

An 18-year-old man, believed to have been the pillion passenger on the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy, believed to have been the rider of the motorcycle, was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition tonight.

At this stage it is believed that the motorcycle collided with a traffic island on Mottingham Road.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford are investigating.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 020 8285 1574."
