Jeremy Vine posts new video of 'dangerous' motorist on London road: 'This is the driver I fear'

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine has released a new video of a motorist pulling a dangerous stunt in London.

The journalist posted the footage taken on his bike-mounted camera with the caption: “This is the driver I fear”.

Keen cyclist Vine made headlines in August this year when he released shocking footage of a foul-mouthed road rage clash on the streets of Kensington.

The footage, recorded on his daily commute, showed him getting a “kicking” during a row with what he called a dangerous driver.

But now less than two months after the clash, the Strictly Come Dancing star has posted a new video taken from the streets of the capital on his Facebook page, sparking a row over the behaviour of motorists and cyclists.

The fresh footage shows Vine approaching a junction on his left, where a white car is waiting for a break in the traffic before turning.

But as Vine passes the junction, an unseen red car pulls out in front of him.

The radio presenter can be heard saying “wow” as the red car – which appears to be a Peugeot – speeds off ahead.

Words added by Vine onto the video read: “He doesn’t care about my life or yours.”

He posted the video alongside the caption: “The cycle-commute in London sometimes involves you seeing a driver and thinking, 'on another day, he would have killed me.' Watch the red car.”

The video has now been watched 25,000 times on Facebook.

But the post sparked a row between supporters of cyclists and motorists over who is to blame on the city’s roads.

Many people commented and gave their support to the BBC Radio 2 host, with fans like Debbie Gaunt saying: “That is awful, thank goodness you were ok.”

But others, like Trevor Biddle, hit out at Vine for his frequent criticism of drivers.

Mr Biddle said: “For every bad motorist I’ve seen at least 10 bad cyclists, how come you don’t put bad cyclists on here Jeremy?

“By the way I’m one of those horrible truckers!”

But Vine replied to the criticism with a photo of part of a news article written in defence of his near-miss in August.

Mr Biddle replied: “That gives them rights to weave in and out of traffic just to get 100 yards more faster? If all cyclists was responsible cyclists I would be first behind you in condemning motorists but sadly they are not .

“A lot are very irresponsible like motorists it is not all one way Jeremy!”

Vine later replied with: “113 pedestrians are killed on the pavement by vehicles, for every one killed by a cyclist. Sorry.”

Vine also responded to a Facebook user who said the red car was “nowhere near” him.

The broadcaster said: “To be clear - for the user who said "he was a long way from you" - his actions did not threaten me directly. But he pulled out of a side road at speed when he couldn't possibly see if the cycle lane was clear, and had I been 10 seconds earlier to work I would have been his victim.”

Andy Birks said: “I am a lorry driver and I will start and record and send you videos of cyclists who seem to blame lorry drivers and car drivers for everything in London and see what you think to the cyclists... it's time you went for a ride on a normal day in a lorry with a professional driver who has spent years and thousands to get his licence.”
