Three London teenagers who are believed to have been on their way to Syria have been arrested.

One man, 19, and two boys aged 17, were held by officials in Turkey before being returned to the UK, according to Metropolitan Police.

Scotland Yard revealed that the trio, all from north-west London, had been arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts.

Counter terrorism officers were told on Friday that the two boys had gone missing.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Inquiries revealed that they had travelled with a third male, aged 19 years.

"Officers alerted the Turkish authorities who were able to intercept all three males, preventing travel to Syria.

"On Saturday, March 14 the three males returned to the UK and at approximately 11.10am were arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts contrary to section five of the Terrorism Act 2006.

"All three have been taken to a central London police station, where they remain in custody," he added.
