Tottenham Hotspur's home clash against Sheffield United was delayed last night after the Blades' team bus was held up in London traffic for almost three hours as it travelled from their Islington hotel to the match.

Traffic in the roads around White Hart Lane was so bad that Spurs' opponents spent hours travelling at snail's pace - in a journey which took about the same time as driving from London to Sheffield.

Fans took to Twitter to complain after kick off in the Capital One Cup match was delayed by 15 minutes to 8pm.

One person said: "KO delayed at White Hart Lane. Traffic is always s*** in Tottenham."

Another said: "Going to miss the Tottenham game because I'm stuck in traffic".

Others appeared more amused by the late start to the game.

Nimish Dubey said: "So the Sheffield team bus took two hours to get through five miles of London traffic? Was Obama visiting?"

Gareth Walker wrote: "Rather a blunder under-estimating London traffic".

Another Twitter user posted: "LOL the Tottenham vs Sheffield Utd game has been delayed due to Sheffield Utd being stuck in traffic. What is this Sunday league..?! #COYS"
