Around 70 diners and residents fled a west London restaurant after a fire broke out on Tuesday night.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called about 9.40pm to the blaze on Uxbridge Road in Hayes and tackled the fire into the early hours of Wednesday.

Half of the roof of a single-storey extension at a restaurant, with flats above, was alight, said firefighters, who did not name the restaurant. Ducting was also on fire.

Around 70 people fled the building before the Fire Brigade arrived.

There were no reports of any injuries at this time.

The fire was brought under control at 12.24am but firefighters said they were likely to remain on the scene into the night.

People are asked to continue to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing.

Crews from Hayes, Southall, Northolt, Ealing, Heathrow and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
