Hundreds of Hunger Games fans queued in the rain in Leicester Square for a glimpse of the film’s stars at today’s premiere of Catching Fire.

They travelled from across Europe to see Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson on the red carpet at the Odeon.

By 7am, there were several hundred people wrapped in sleeping bags, many in pyjama bottoms with waterproof jackets on top, queuing around the south side of the square and into Whitcomb Street and Orange Street.

First in the line was Margaret Fennel, 53, from Canary Wharf. She arrived on Friday evening.

She said: “I could have gone home when the weather got really bad but I’m tough and I had to see it through

“Most of my friends are in the queue, which has really kept my spirits up.”

Cecilia Santilli, 18, and two friends travelled from Ancona in Italy yesterday and were huddled next to German student Julia Kiepert.

Ms Kiepert, 24, a film student from Greenwich, said: “We put our names down on a list last night to make sure we kept our place and then went home to catch a few hours sleep.

“We were up at 5.30am to be here, it’s cold and wet but the wait will be worth it.”

Ms Santilli said: “We needed to get to London to see all the actors because only a few of them will appear in Rome.

“We don’t care that it’s freezing, we will wait.”
