Waterstones is inviting 10 guests in store for a sleepover after an American tourist became locked inside the Trafalgar Square branch last week.

The bookstore are advertising the competition on accommodation website Airbnb, which will take place this Friday from 9pm to 9am the next day.

Winners and their guest will be given a tour around the Waterstones Piccadilly store before being invited to take their pick of the thousands of books on offer.

They will then spend the night with their book of choice relaxing on an air bed and sleeping bag provided.

The Airbnb page said there will also be some surprises on offer as well as treats provided by Grazebox and Weetabix.

A description on Airbnb said: “With Waterstones Piccadilly all to yourself, saunter up and down our beautiful central staircase, from our ground floor Bestsellers to our fourth floor’s Russian Bookshop, and let your imagination loose.”

It added: “The only thing you need to worry about is what to read next. And if someone will let you out in the morning… But that wouldn’t be a problem would it?”

It comes after David Willis found himself locked inside the book shop last Thursday and caused a social media storm after he tweeted for requests for help.

Many responded by saying a lock-in at Waterstones would be a dream come true and it seems the book shop are now jumping on the idea.

Those interested need to set up an Airbnb account, input any dates available, click on the ‘Contact host’ link and input what book you would like to read if you spend the night in Waterstones.

The deadline for entries is October 22.
