Police were forced to shut the Blackwall Tunnel last night after a woman in high-vis was spotted strolling through it.

After getting a pair of calls about the out-of-place pedestrian, officers drove into the southbound tunnel on blue lights to pick the woman up and take her to a police station.

She is shown in CCTV from Transport for London carrying what appears to be a shopping bag.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We were called by members of the public at 8.54pm and 9.03pm to reports of a woman in a luminous vest walking in the Blackwall Tunel.

"The woman was detained and the tunnel was closed southbound while officers dealt with the incident."

The tunnel was reopened by 9.20pm, police added.
