A woman is fighting for her life in hopsital after a car ploughed into a charity shop in south-east London.

Fire fighters were forced to free the woman after she became trapped in the building in Petts Wood following the crash just after 4pm on Thursday.

Metropolitan Police confirmed she was in a life-threatening condition at a south London hospital.

Passersby said an “elderly man” had been behind the wheel of the vehicle when in crashed through the shop front in Queensway.

Dramatic images and video footage show police, ambulance and fire crews at the scene of the smash.

Omar Kara, a member of staff at neighbouring Uskudar restaurant told the Standard that the driver had driven out of Morrison's car park - opposite the charity shop - and straight into the store.

He said: "The driver came straight out of Morrison's car park. It looks very bad.

"Emergency services were trying to free the woman for about an hour."

The road was cordoned off while fire crews worked to free the woman.

An LFB spokesman said: “A car collided with a shop window.

“A woman was trapped inside and she was released and is now in the car of the London Ambulance Service.

“We sent two fire engines and three fire rescue units to the scene.”

London Air Ambulance crews were also called-out.
