An unexploded World War Two bomb has been washed up on the riverside in Greenwich.

The device washed up by Enderby's Wharf, SE10, just after 4pm this afternoon.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the object was a Second World War ordnance, and said officers were in attendance.

A photograph captured at the scene shows at Metropolitan Police boat travelling towards the foreshaw where the explosive device was discovered.

The spokesman said it was not immediately clear whether any road closures had been put in place following the discovery.

The bomb is the second to be washed up on the banks of the Thames in as many months.

In May, an ordnance found by the riverbank in Vauxhall sparked a security alert yards from the MI6 headquarters.

Office buildings - including the building next door to MI6 - were evacuated a security cordon was put in place by police.
