Yesterday The Londoner ran into Charles Edwards, who was in the audience at the press night for The Weir at Wyndham’s Theatre. The last time we heard of him was in the Christmas special of Downton Abbey playing journalist Michael Gregson as he disappeared in Germany, not knowing that he’d left Lady Edith knocked up.
Edwards is about to start rehearsals for Blithe Spirit with Angela Lansbury at the Gielgud. The Noël Coward play is currently taking bookings until June, suggesting that he might not find time for television filming. The Londoner reminded Edwards that his character has a secret illegitimate daughter waiting for him back at Downton. “Apparently,” he joked. “So I hear.”
