Kelly Reilly and Denzel Washington braved the cold in Leicester Square last night for the premiere of Flight, in which Washington plays a disgraced American hero and Reilly adopts a Southern drawl as a recovering heroin addict.

Reilly said she got the film’s costume assistant, who was from Alabama, to talk to her before each scene so she could “steal” her voice for the movie.

Washington, who’s known for playing charismatic good guys, has said he was drawn to playing a self-destructive character. It looks like it was a good bet — it’s just won him his third Oscar nomination.
