Bag-a-bargain Beeb flogs off the family silver

The BBC was criticised this month for wasting public money on paying outgoing bosses six-figure payoffs that were even bigger than their generous contracts stipulated. Now the corporation is flogging off the family silver.

An online auction of hundreds of lots from the now-closed Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush includes four large BBC-stamped silver trays and dozens of framed pictures of Auntie’s stars through the ages, ranging from Bruce Forsyth and Miranda Hart to Morecambe and Wise. Images of Jimmy Savile are strangely absent.
