Bill Cash puts women ahead of Europe

Deep confusion in the Commons when Bill Cash, the famously Eurosceptic MP, went off piste and proposed a new law which had nothing to do with Europe.

Cash put forward the Gender Equality International Development Bill, which asks that the Government ties in all foreign aid with a commitment to including women properly in its provision — in health, education and administration.

His reward is the backing of Mariella Frostrup. The presenter is the founder of The Great Initiative, a charity that works on promoting women’s rights and status in developing countries. “He is such an unlikely ambassador,” says Frostrup. “We look forward to working closely with Bill on this important Bill.”
