Christmas cheer starts early

It might appear to still be summer outside but in certain corners of London, Christmas has already arrived. Visitors to the National Portrait Gallery have been surprised to see that the gift shop is selling cards depicting elegant Victorian ladies wrapped up against the snow in white furs coats and frolicking amongst the festive fir trees.

A gallery spokesman says: “We do usually sell a small number of Christmas cards using images from the gallery’s archive from this time of year because we have lots of customers from overseas who like to buy the gallery’s beautiful Christmas cards to take home with them. The full range of Christmas products will be available from late September.”
