Anna Ford could have been Britain’s Joan Baez, claims Chris Wright, the Chrysalis music mogul who tried to turn the newsreader-to-be into a folk star in the Sixties. Ford, who served with Wright on the Manchester student union committee, became his first client. “Her dark hair combed back into a ponytail, Anna sat on a stool, played the guitar and sang American folk songs, some of which were very, very good,” Wright recalls in his autobiography, One Way Or Another, published next week. “I’ve always thought there is something sensual about an attractive girl playing a guitar. Joan Baez was very big at the time and Anna was just like her, except prettier. I would have loved to have started a relationship with her but I never got a sign that she was remotely interested, so to my regret our relationship remained professional.”
