David Miliband found himself at the UK’s largest Jewish food festival yesterday after being dragged in off the street by “Gefiltefest” organisers as he made his way to Hampstead Heath with his family. He got to meet his food heroine, writer Claudia Roden, “a staple of my mother’s cooking”, while his children grazed at an edible Tel Aviv beach made of pitta bread.

Miliband insists he won’t be lazing around at food festivals before he departs to his new post in New York at the end of July: “I’m disentangling myself from UK business and entangling myself in International Rescue Committee business, so I’m off to Africa next weekend.” But London foodies struggled to disentangle one Miliband from the other. One even sent a tweet to Ed M to extend a very warm welcome.
